WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET AN EYE EXAM

Eye exams can get you on the right path for eye care preventing eye disease and loss of vision. Your Eye Doctor will advise you Eye Examand tell you what you need to know  to make sure that you are taking care of your eyes for the long-term.  Do not wait to have an eye exam only when you need to get your driver’s license, apply for the military, or begin to have symptoms. Here are some reasons to have a one-year eye health examination.

EYE EXAMS CAN HELP YOU PREVENT DISEASES

There are many disorders and diseases that patients can have with their eyes that if they went to their eye doctor every year permanent damage or blindness might have been avoided. It is better to  an eye exam when you start to notice certain issues then to wait. Eye Doctors are able to detect eye diseases in most cases before you have symptoms.  Too many people ignore their symptoms and by the time they visit the eye doctor lose permanent vision. This is especially true with children who may be reluctant to get glasses or adults who are in denial. Remember, the eye is a body member and subject to disease like any other body part.

GLAUCOMA - THE SILENT THIEF OF VISION

This is one of those diseases that 90% of the time lacks symptoms and slowly destroys the nerves in the eye. A comprehensive eye exam by an Optometrist can rule out this silent thief of vision. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Some people can have no symptoms until their sight is almost completely lost.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET AN EYE EXAM?

Retinal camera 300×224It is a good idea to start getting eye exams when you are a child and continue to get them once a year. You have to remember that your eyesight is something that you rely heavily on. If you do not have an eye exam, yearly you may find that simple problems grow into ones that are more complex and the treatment become more challenging. Your eyesight is something that you cannot usually get back once it is gone. Make sure that you are getting regular exams and taking care of your eyes for the long-term health and quality of your vision.
